We are delighted to announce that Dr Alan Wong, a doctor with Central Health Partners and Southside Family Health Centre will be conducting a workshop on ‘common childhood illness and management’ for our parents and caregivers. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to learn more about how we can protect and take care of our little ones with common injuries and illnesses. Dr Wong will also be happy to answer your questions.

Workshop Part I: Common childhood illnesses

  • Fever/Flu
  • Rashes on children (Chickenpox/HFMD/Scarlett fever/Fifth disease)
  • Head injury
  • When to keep a child home from school

Workshop Part II: Small group first aid practice on

  • Choking
  • Burns
  • Bleeding
  • Bee sting/Anaphylaxis
About the speaker

Dr Alan Wong is a registered medical doctor in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Hong Kong. He received his family medicine training in Minnesota, United States and worked in the United Kingdom, in Australia, and in the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong before joining Central Health and Southside Family Health Centre.

Other than practicing medicine, Alan enjoys teaching medical students. He was a Lecturer at the University of Melbourne Shepparton Medical Center in Australia and is now an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor at the Department of Family Medicine of the University of Hong Kong.

Alan has a strong interest in hyperbaric oxygen therapy and has completed a Master’s degree in hyperbaric medicine at the Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands-Antilles. He shares his passion on hyperbaric medicine and pediatric topics in his weekly column of a local newspaper, AM730 (web version).

Alan endorses health awareness through his commitment with charitable medical organizations. He has been a dedicated volunteer of St. John Ambulance in both Canada and Hong Kong since 1998 and was honoured with Serving Brother of the Order of St. John in 2004 for his contribution. He is also a Medical Officer of Hong Kong Air Cadet Corp and a member of the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association.
