This topic is particularly important for families where more than one language is spoken in the home. It is more and more common for children to be brought up with an exposure to more than one language and in this presentation information will be shared on the following:

  • An overview of current research on bilingualism
  • Setting parents expectations for typical speech and language patterns in their children
  • Creating a child’s home and school environment to achieve success with acquisition of both languages
About the speaker

Dalia Umanskiy graduated with a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology. She then completed the Bilingual Extension Institute program certification at Teacher’s College Columbia University in New York City. She also holds a master’s degree in linguistics.

Dalia has worked in various clinical settings including rehabilitation centers, schools, and state/city-funded programs (early Intervention, committee on pre-school Special Education) providing clinic and home-based assessments and therapy.

Dalia specializes in working with bilingual children with language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, auditory processing disorders, and motor-planning difficulties.

She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed as a speech language pathologist in New York and New Jersey States.
